So I need a job. I have been applying and applying and applying but I am now at the point where I need to let everyone know of the need.

I am currently a freelance reporter and a dog walker.

My last job was editor of a weekly newspaper. I have won awards for my layout designs. I have three college degrees the highest is a master's in english lit. I am willing to do anything and everything in any part of the country.

Online Radio Is Saved; SoundExchange Will Not Enforce New Royalty Rates on Sunday

Congress1 At today's Congressional hearing about the new rates for online radio that would essentially destroy it (as readers of this blog already know), SoundExchange, which was scheduled to receive the new royalty payments on Monday morning (since the enforcement date falls on a Sunday), made a startling statement.

The SoundExchange executive [Jon Simson, executive director] promised -- in front of Congress -- that SoundExchange will not enforce the new royalty rates. Webcasters will stay online, as new rates are hammered out.

I just spoke with Pandora founder Tim Westergren, who expressed relief that Pandora wouldn't have to shut down on Sunday in response to the new rates. He said, "It was getting pretty close. I always had underlying optimism that sanity was going to prevail, but I was beginning to wonder."

He said everyone who called their Congress person about this should feel that they had an effect on the process: "This is a direct result of lobbying pressure, so if anyone thinks their call didn't matter, it did. That's why this is happening." The flyer DiMA distributed to Congress today probably helped a bit too, but overall, it appears Congress intervened due to pressure from web radio listeners.

Funnily enough, Westergren told me this mere hours after a representative of SoundExchange said
that the new rates are "etched in stone." Evidently not.

Update: Another source -- close to the situation although not inside today's closed-door hearing -- confirmed the following: Pandora was there; "progress was made"; the minimum fees are indeed off the table; and SoundExchange and the webcasters that were part of the Copyright Royalty Board hearings are going to have another chat about the rates.

However, the source said the big question right now is whether webcasters not part of the CRB hearing might still have to pay the rates set by the board, minus the minimum fees.

Basically, this news qualifies as a reprieve, but internet radio won't be truly saved until negotiations result in a workable royalty rate.

Another Update: This story has been confirmed by Kurt Hanson of RAIN.

Westergren had more to say, lending insight into a process that was largely opaque to non-participants. Apparently, the per-channel minimum fees mandated by the Copyright Royalty Board were never taken very seriously by those involved. They've now been taken off the table completely, saving Pandora, Live365, and other multicasters from their most imminent threat. Instead, per-station minimums will be capped at $50,000 per year.

"No one thought those per station fees were remotely rational. It only makes sense that they're being taken off the table."

As for the Copyright Royalty Board? They're entirely cut out of the process, having set the rates and then refused a rehearing. Going forward without the royalties being collected, SoundExchange and webcasters will negotiate a new royalty rate with Congress looking over their shoulder -- "and last but not least, the public looking over Congress's shoulder." Alternatively, Congress now has time to consider the Internet Radio Equality Act, which would set webcaster royalties at 7.5 percent of revenue and allow them to continue operating pretty much as they have been.

Either way, this is a big win for webcasters and their listeners. Again, this is a reprieve, and internet radio can't be considered saved until new rates are set that everyone can live with.

I found the Fat Free Vegan Kitchen blog today and I must say I love it. (The link is in my sidebar I just called it Vegan Kitchen)

Prior to my daughter's birth I **LIVED** by the New Farm CookBook. I also used glad rags in that day too so luckily I got over it all but I do miss the cooking from scratch and in such a healthy manner.

I am just jonesing to make seitan from scratch. Maybe I will.

I live in the heart of black bear country. Never a problem with my street or house though until last night. THREE BIG bears came for a visit.

Played with my kids toys in the yard, climbed up to the deck on the second story and seemed to enjoy their stay here until they went on their way downt he street.

Not to sure how I feel about this. I know it is because we keep building in their dens, yet *I* become a mama bear when I think of them around my children.

Hopefully it is a one time visit.

What's the longest amount of time you've been away from home on a trip? By "trip" I mean things like a journey taken for pleasure (a vacation, cruise) or for business (business training, conventions, workshops, facilities tours) and things of that nature. Things that I would not classify as a "trip" for this assignment would be something like a military assignment or a long-term work posting, or going away for college. All of those will certainly keep you from home for a while, but they're of a different nature than when you're living out of a suitcase (or backpack, or whatever).

The longest amount of time I have ever been away from home is in August 1992 when I drove to the Grand Canyon and back with my cousin Michele. I go down the shore for long stretches at a day but some how always fimnd myself coming home for a day here and there so that doesnt truly count!

Extra Credit: What's the furthest you've been away from home?

California. Not sure what part of California is actually the furtherest from me. I do know Mill Valley is 2,892 miles. In addition to the North Bay area, I have also been to Santa Monica and LA. I am going back to LA and San Diego in July.

The Open Toed Shoe Pledge

As a member of the Cute Girl Sisterhood, I pledge to follow the Rules when wearing sandals and other open-toe shoes:
I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps.
I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free.
I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe.
I will sand down any mounds of skin before they! turn h ard and yellow.
I will shave the hairs off my big toe.
I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.
If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it.
I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr. Scholl's if my feet need him.
I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes. This is out of concern for my safety, and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.
I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages.
I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good.
I will promise if I wear flip flops that I will ensure that they actually flip and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide or drag my feet while wearing them.
I will promise to go to my local nail salon at least once per season and have a real pedicure (they are about $15 or 20 and worth EVERY penny).
I will promise to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of wear... nothing is tackier than dirty white sandals.
Don't keep this to yourself - pass it on to other sisters.

Last night I went to Joe's Pub for the 4th time in 6 months. Only this time I was not seeing Rachel Fuller and In The Attic Jam!

Playing were Foy Vance and Sarah Tracey. I went specially to see Foy. He is wonderful!!! But I got to say its such a different scene from ITA!!!! First the place was half empty! The vibe was also much more casual and relaxed. That said I missed Rachel!

Foy though was FAB!!!!! He played for about 45 minutes. He talked about doing ITA at Joes in Sept. I think I was the only one who knew what he was talking about ;) lol He did Crosstown Traffic again.I could listen to him do that song over and over. He also talked a lot more and it was nice to see his personality. I wish he was the headliner because I felt like I did not have enough yk?

Sarah Tracey was good. Very strong voice -- belts it right out. Kinda bluesy. Plays piano and acoustic guitar. Even though I liked her she played for too long for me. Her stuff is a lot of the same and I was ready for her to be done. I guess she played for about 45 minutes too. 30 would have been better! lol

I have to say Joe's is a great resource for shows! They really have
some good people and is reasonable. Parking and tunnel tolls are more
;) I need to keep my eye on their calendar!

Yesterday and today I have been working -- shocking I know ;) and for those of you who have no idea what I do I am a freelance reporter.

Yesterday afternoon I was asked to take over a beat. It is hard news, a complicated messy messy story involving porn and suspended police officers - so high drama too. I have loved every minute!!! I no longer cover such stories and I totally forgot the high you get from the drama of it all and the rush of working on deadline.

I didnt see this artist actually perform at SXSW but I downloaded her song "F*** was I" at SXSW.com. Her name is Jenny Owen Youngs and she is a Jersey girl -- so of course she is wonderful!

FWIW - I bought her album at iTunes.

I need more of her music ASAP!!! Hopefully she plays often in her home state or at least across the river!

Tonight I had to play a different role from that most of you know me in -- at least those I know IRL. I had to play the role of soccer mom.

Our school district held their annual Spring Fling fundraiser. It is a posh event and we all spend a bloody fortune. The dinner for once was decent, the prizes plenty (I won a ballet basket for Katie Belle), the entertainment was horrid.

It was an Elvis impersonator. Not even a good one. At the end he wanted to take pictures with us and not one of the 350 women there would. It was embarrassing when he started to go table to table and ask. All I can say is I am glad it is over!!!

SXSW I forgot to talk about

First I left off James McMurtry from the list of artists we saw at Rajiworld. He sings a fab song called We Cant Make it Here Anymore. You can check him out here http://www.jamesmcmurtry.com/

The one cool thing I REALLY liked about SXSW was the discovery of new internet radio stations. I am listening to my favorite dfind - mvyradio.com Lots of indie artists as well as Allman Brothers, Peter Tosh, Norah Jones and other well knowns. The other one I like is The Current. I already knew of them. You can listen at http://www.thecurrent.org. Again Indie. What I dont like about The Current -- at least when using iTunes -- it doesnt say the name of the song and artist. I find when they include that info it is a helpful to me when I want spend my money!!! You can find the info easily enough at their website but many times I am doing something else online - like now blogging while mvyradio is on. It is easier to just switch to iTunes then open another window.

We also were told of a third while waiting in line for the bathroom -- do you not have some of the best conversations in that line? It is KNON 89.3 You can hear it at http://www.knon.org I cant tell you much of the station as I am having problems getting it to play on my MAC I could of course go downstairs to my PC. Maybe tomorrow.

Another cool thing we saw at SXSW was Flatstock. It was a room of poster art. They also had t-shirts and buttons as well as some bumper stickers. I did buy a few buttons. SXSW Update 4

As promised. . .

On Saturday we went to Rajiworld for the blogger party. It was held at the Big Red Sun. I have to say it almost didnt matter what the bands were as this was a great outdoor venue. It was a beautiful day and we sat on blankets listening to music surrounded by the smell of rosemary -- who could ask for more?!

The first artist we saw was folk singer Billy Harvey. I have to say while his music wasn't bad, his on stage personality was annoying. And to go along with his annoying self his website said I was forbidden to enter so I am not going to even bother giving any of you the link! heh!

Next up was a *wonderful* folk singer, who sang a bunch of war protest songs. Sadly I only got his first name - Otis. If any one knows his name please share! He also performed at the Million Musician March earlier in the day. It was an anti-war protest. Wish I knew about it I would have been there.

Friends of Dean Martinez were the next to perform. They did the score for Fast Food Nation so you may or may not already be familiar with them. Here is a taste of the music. I think they fit in the instrumental alternative category.

I thought they were good background music but I really wasnt crazy about watching them and actually left to make a few phone calls.

One of my favorites of the day performed next (I think -- like I said in an eariler post I should have taken notes) -- Nakia. He was wonderful. I especially enjoyed his song Crying. We then again saw both the Mother Truckers (I love the lead guitarist, Josh Zee, he is just FUN to watch) and the Hacienda Brothers. You HAVE to dance when you see them. No way can you stay still. lol I bought their CD too.

They are missing the edge and funness of The Mother Truckers but if you are into country you'll probably really like them. Jersey girls just arent THAT into country ;) lol

The highlight of the evening was hearing more of Ian McLagan & the Bump Band. Dont ask me how much of his stuff I bought as I told in earlier entries -- I am in love with Mac!!! lol Shame on Rod Stewart for not wanting to do a Small Faces Reunion!!!! Although Maybe Mac is better off with the Bump band. Enough politics -- you can get Macs stuff from his website - macspages.com or itunes. Or like some of us wacky people at both places. lol

The last group we heard at Rajiworld was Skyrocket (formerly KTel Hit Machine). They are exactly what you expect -- cover songs from the 70s and 80s.

We went out for margaritas and Mexican food with Burton and Michelle. Great drinks, so so food, but hey when the margaritas are THAT good who cares about the food.

The four of us then went to see Alexi Murdoch who I am still not impressed with at all. He makes me sleepy. Hmmm I often have trouble going to sleep maybe I should buy his stuff!!! I will admit I do like his song Orange Sky though. You can sample him at itunes. I could not find a website that had sample of his music for free but then again I didnt look too hard. As much as I dont like his music I do love his political commentary and he was worth seeing again just for that. He doesnt talk that much when performing at In The Attic but alone he lets his mind be heard and that is wonderful.

Next we saw folk singer Eliza Gilkyson. We didnt mean to, it was a total accident but we really enjoyed her. I didnt buy her stuff yet, but I probably will. I found them to be quite different in terms of style, also I think Rachel has a prettier voice. Not that I am biased or anything. lol These guys said "not nice" things about Rachel. Of course I straightened them out.

For the last two artist we ran into Lynne. It was great being able to hang out a little with Lynne, We saw her at all the Mac events but she was always in work mode. She was finally able to have some fun!

Cathy and I then went to Bourbon Rocks just to see what was playing there. I believe the band was called Schoolyard Heroes. They were a little to heavy for us so we left and pretty much called it a night.

Wow this is a really long post! Tomorrow will be my last SXSW entry. I will tell of all the things I forgot to talk about thus far like Flatstock.

The SXSW Freebies

I just wrote this wonderfully witty entry on all the freebies we got. I got disconnected from my server and it is all lost. I dont know I can recreate it, but I will try. Here goes . . .

Another side to SXSW is the freebies. We didnt try too hard to get too many as we very quickly got more then we could carry home. There are all kinds of tips and tricks out there for scoring as much free stuff as possible.

Right at the start when you pick up your badge you get a free totebag and directory. The totebag is chock full of stuff -- hangover cures, voodoo dolls, condoms, magazines -- including Relix, and a bunch of CDs. Some of the CDs are samplers of various artists, some are entire CDs of one artists. The samplers are interesting as you can love the first song and hate the next. FI on the Vibe Sampler I really like The Reason's "this is just the beginning" -- typical alternative. However I can so do without LCD Soundsystem "North American Scum." Actually the music I quite liked, it remind me of 80s punk, it was the lyrics I just coudnt stand. But hey that is me and I am getting old. lol

The CDs we got by a single artist include Public Enemy, Ugk and Ani DiFranco. We also got Eugene McGuiness and Liverpool Sound City, which has various artists, some we have all seen on In The Attic, when Cathy gave a band member 3 ciagrettes! lol I havent listened to any of them yet. I havent listened to many of the CDs at all. That is what I plan to do this week. Every artist also had their CD for sale, but back to the freebies.

At the trade show we probably could have garnered more free stuff if we had business cards or chatted it up with the reps. But as it was we got a boat load. T-shirts, mints, pens, beads, rubber bracelets, pins, more magazines and other stuff I am sure I am forgetting.

Every afternoon there we also free parties with free food and drink. You needed an invite or just to know where they were. We only made it to the one Rachel was playing as we tended to sleep into the early afternoon. But there was free mexican and margaritas.

I am now home and exhausted. I think I need to sleep for two days. lol Tomorrow I will post about the last of the artists we saw with links to their music.

In San Antonio

I am now in San Antonio. This room is so cold I can almost see my breath I swear. I fly out tomorrow at 6:55 a.m. What was I thinking?

I know I promised an update but I think I am getting sick and could use some sleep. I have no idea how I am going to get back to the real world. lol

I will update tomorrow from home. (heh you all heard that before!) I also what to include links of all the artists I think you should listen to.

I really should have taken notes or something as if I was covering the even as an assignment. I think I could have blogged it better that way. I dont know. What I do is Bryan yes you need to add it to your calendar for 2008!!!

SXSW Update 3

Another fab day here in Texas!

First I will tell you all about me -- it is me blog afterall. I did something I wanted to do for a good 5 years. I got my ear pierced up high by the curve. (makes sense?) I love it!!!! Hurts, but hey no pain no beauty or so my mother always said.

Okay enough about me.

Cathy and I started the day out at Flatstock. A show of concert posters, buttons, album covers and just plain funky art. Then we went to the SXSW trade show. We got a bunch of free stuff -- buttons, t-shirts, pens, cds, magazines (Relix!!!), mints and uh condoms. (They give out condoms like crazy around here!!!) We ran into Lynne and she introduced us to Mac who is a total doll. I am his newest and hugest fan!!! Playing at the trade show was Vessy Mink. You all need to check her out.

Next we went over to Brush Square Park where we met up with fellow bloggers and Who fans - Susan, June, Burton, Lauren and Brandi. It was a Muzak party. Free food and margaritas. Who can complain about that? While we were chatting away we heard Sarah Marince, Andy Ziff, Scott McCurry, The Hot IQs and The Alternate Routes. We then moved into the tent and again had front row seats again for Rachel.

Rachel looked beautiful in the outfit she picked. Joleon Dixon played guitar with her for Cigarettes & Housework and Ode to Sir Reilly. He played with her in 2004. He told us she recently ran into him and said you must play with me in SXSW. He is such the cutie, never nind his playing ability. lol

Rachel also played Pleasure Seeker, Blue and my favorite song - Motherfucker. Then Pete joined her for Sunrise. It was truly a great set.

Next we went over to Bourbon Rocks to hear Lonelady. Despite the lack of crowd they were pretty good. It was after this I got my ear pierced. then we ran over to the Direct TV event to see Rachel again. It was pretty much the same set but her and Pete closed the show with my favorite favorite song - In The Mix. Rachel actually stood up at the mic and sang. It was great. Martha Wainwright joined them for one song too.

Afterwards we had some delicious margaritas with Burton. Then it was back to Bourbon Rocks where we saw Ron Sexsmith. He was incredible. Truly. Next up was The Redwalls. They totally rocked out and were a ton of fun. Sadly then it was time to go home.

But even that was an adventure and we got more free cds and condoms. lol

SXSW Update 2

Today was another day of whirl wind activity!!!

We started out with lunch at Fado's, an Irish Pub where we heard Frank Turner play. He is acoustic, and plays solo. Nice stuff. I am surrpised he ahs not been on ITA. The food was yummy. I had an really great burger, not as good as the one I had in Chicago but close! We ate outside. I have to say the weather here in Austin was gorgeous today and I am so glad I am not in NJ where it is snowing!!!

After lunch we walked up to the ITA venue. We wanted to make sure we had a good spot in line so we would get in. We were the first badge holders there. lol. But we were not the first people there. We met Michelle and Burton (I am sorry I am blanking on their blogger names atm - Michelle is Life imitates art and Burton's Babalover - I *think*) Lauren soon follwed as did Junebug. Standing out in the beautiful Texas sun for two hours we met quite a few people. I do believe that was the only bloggers I spoke with though. If I am leaving some one out speak up!

Anyway when they let us in I got the rail center stage!!!!! It was fab!!!!! Pete was the opening number with one song,. Then Willie Mason ( I swear his drummer is only about 10 years old ;) ) followed by Mica, Joe Purdy, Rachel, Martha Wainwright, Alexi Murdouch and Pete again. It was wonderful!!!! Purdy rocked out a tad with members of Willie Mason. Nothing like last night though. Pete also played with everyone. Pete did perform my favorite In The Ether. I realize you are probably looking for more of a set lidt but at 3:15 a.m. I am having a hard time remembering!!!!

Update: Now it is the next morning - I remember slightly more! LOL Joe Purdy and Pete did a great verison of :et My Love Open The Door (not sure if that is the real name?) Alexi and Pete did Seduction (not even sure if that is the name)

Next we went to Ian and the Bump Band. I am in love with Mac. Totally. What more can I say?

We finally got to see Lynne, she has been busy busy with her work with Mac but we were finally able to catch up and say hi. I met Lynne at my first Rachel Fuller event back on Sept. 11 at B&N in NYC. We hope to met up again if not tomorrow. Saturday.

Kaki Kings was the next performer we saw. She is mostly instrumental. Plays five finger guitar as wella s slide guitar. It was interesting, We only stayed for 3 songs though as we were starving. We went next to door for a bite to eat.

Our last stop was the Whiskey Bar where we saw the Mother Truckers, who totally rocked. Their set was way too short IMNSHO. lol It felt like a 5 seconds. Prior to the Mother Truckers we caught the end of The Hacienda Brothers, who were also good. Same type of music as The Motther Truckers -- a combo of country and rock.

We walked around a bit before coming back here to the hotel.

I do so wish all of you could be with us!!!! It would be so much fun.

SXSW Update 1

SXSW is beyond fun!!!!

The registration process is a little mental and took over an hour for us to get our badges. Fellow blogger Susan gave us a quick brief tour of the area and showed us the best places to park. Can not thank her enough for that!!!!!

First on our agenda was Pete Townshend's Keynote address. Sully updated you all on Rachel's blog so I wont repeat it. I will say it was wonderful and went by in seconds despite being well over an hour. He was charming and funny and I could have listened to him all night long!!!

Next Cathy with a C and I went to the Austin Music Awards -- excellent place for us fun freaks to hang, lol. The award part itself was fairly boring but they had great artists performing. The evening was highlighted by Mac playing with Pete Townshend. Can you say incredible? The Bump band played too and each and everyone of those performers looked like they were having a blast. I know I was!!!! It seemed to be over again in seconds.

Joe Purdy was next on our dream list. I have seen him twice at In The Attic - Martyrs in Chicago and most recently at Hotel Cafe in LA. I like his work very folky. Tonight was all about rocking out. WOW WOW WOW. He and his band just rocked the house down. I could not believe it was the same artist!!!! Same songs but totally kicked up. I did end up purchasing his CDs. He will be playing at In The Attic again tomorrow night.

After Purdy we saw Ari Hest. He is a New Yorker!!! It is just him and his acoustic guitar. The voice on that man. :::::swoon:::::: It was just wonderfully romantic at times, yet so sad and haunting singing anti-war songs.

Okay I have been up for nearly 24 hours so I will say good night and post another update tomorrow.

I finally read one complete book in 2007. Usually by now I am up to 15 or 20. But lately I have not been able to focus. Hence all the DVD watching.

Anyway I started this piece of brain candy sometime in 2006. I read it in a few different cities. Chicago and Austin that I can remember!!

Shopaholic takes Manhattan is very funny and entertaining as was the first in the series Confessions of a Shopoholic. It should have been a quick read but what can I say?

Although technically it is after midnight here in NJ for some reason blogger shows Pacific time.

I just finished watching a great movie. It is called The Great New Wonderful. It shows the hidden stories of NYers with their problems and confusion in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001. They know something in their life is off, but they are not sure they should or how to fix it.

The ending is bittersweet as it ends on Sept. 11, 2002 showing not only the changes, but commerating the day for what it was - the first anniversary of 9/11. That in and of itself left me crying at the end. I dont think it mattered some of the stories ended sadly too.

I recently saw the World Trade Center site for the first time since Sept. 11. While I KNEW the buildings were gone -- I no longer see them in the skylne that cant be missed -- it was still shocking and heartbreaking to see it really is just a pit.

I have nothing to say lately. Have you noticed? lol

I went to the American Beauty Project this past weekend. That was interesting. It is a tribute of sorts to the Grateful Dead. A different band plays each a song on Workingman's Dead and the American Beauty album. We went Sunday, which was The American Beauty album.

Surprisingly all the GD songs I know come from this album! Although it usually makes me cry, I have to say one of my favorite Dead songs is Box of Rain and the interpretation of it at the ABP **REALLY** made me wanted to cry!! I can appreciate the artists talent but her version was just horrid, maybe even beyond horrid.

A Friend of A Devil wasnt bad but if **I** noticed you messed up the words and music to Grateful Dead song well you really must have messed them up!!!

OTOH Dar Wiliams did a simply beautiful Ripple.

Truckin was fine as was the encore number Going Down the Road and Feeling Bad. (Which I dont think is from the AB album and I am not sure that is even the name of the song. lol) The rest of the songs I do not know and I liked then well enough but not really knowing the GD version I shouldnt comment on them.

There was a lot of talking by the emcee in between each song and that was kinda boring. People were even falling asleep!! I guess maybe it was not so bad if you were into the history of it and the music but I was there just to dance. We actually had one guy Sushhhhhh us a few times for having too much fun!! Felt like I was at a Who concert and not something related to The Grateful Dead!!! Every Dead show I have ever been to has always been about fun fun fun -- probably too much fun!!! and of course dancing dancing dancing.

This review probably sounds negative but I did have a great -- or should I say grate ;) -- time!!!

Clearly I am sucker for a movie with creative camera shots/editing.

There was not as much of it as in Pieces of April or Garden State but still I heart the shot of the main charcter shaving in the beginning and the shots in the van towards the end.

The movie over all is sad and touching. Totally different from what I usually watch.

The latest movies I watched are Dreamland, Myth of Fingerprints, The Break-Up and Clean.

The first two were okay, they were entertaining enough but didnt truly move me in the way you need to keep watching.

The Break-Up was funny, a lthough it was a bit sad.

I am sitting in a hotel room in San Antonio amazed by all the wires surrounding me.

Everything is charging -- my cell phone, my ipod, my 4 y.o.'s ipod, her gameboy, and my lap top! My digital camera battery should be charging but I can't find the charger and am hoping I did not forget it!

Seems crazy I am so dependent on electricity to entertain myself and my child. I always thought I was rather simple yet just the thought of any of these items having no power sends me into a tizzy! I am in a total panic about the camera TBH.

Maybe I should consider unplugging a bit -- maybe!

Last weekend I went to Chicago for the fifth Rachel Fuller's In The Attic Jam. It was good but not nearly as good as those in the past. I guess I am just not into folk music and the special guests were folk singers. One sang so very quietly.

I did have a ton of fun catching up with old friends and making new. Friday night -- although I suppose it was really Saturday morning as the call came in at 1 a.m. -- I got a calling saying are you sleeping? Of course I wasn't!! It was a whirlwind of activity from then on!

Wednesday night's In The Attic at Joe's Pub.was a blast! It was a great show as per usual. (although I will admit LA is still my favorite thus far)

In addition to the wonderful music by Rachel Fuller, Martha Wainwright, Sean Lennon (who is just lovely), Mikey Cuthbert, Pete Townshend and Ryan Adams (who is the exact opposite of Sean Lennon!) there was the getting together with the blogger community.

I reconnected with old friends and met new friends. I did miss my LA friends though!

It was an amazing night all around and I can not wait for Chicago!!

After nearly a decade I finally let LauraBZ "drag" (LOL) me to Ratdog.

I should have done it a loooooooong time ago! She said I would know a song or two as they play mostly Grateful Dead stuff. Of course I didn't know a thing they played as I only know about five Dead songs and not the most popular ones at that! But it didn't matter -- just let the music fill your soul! I danced and danced and danced from the first note until the last.

They were truly great and the sax player is definitely wonderful to look at. (next to Bobby of course ;) )

I had such a great time I am now trying to figure out how to spend next week in Florida.

I am back from ITA and California. In the Attic rocked! It was wonderful. I had such a good time catching up again with "old" friends and meeting new.

I fell in total love with Santa Monica! As many of you know I'll probably be moving in the next 6 months- a year. Don't be surprised to find me there!! Although the traffic -- sheesh makes NYC look like a dream.

Other then the traffic it totally meets my requirements -- the main one being no more then 2-3 hours from an ocean -- and well it is on the beach so it is perfect!

Friday's meeting did not go well, there was some shocking information my research uncovered. I sorta knew it when I got the documents but I didn't totally understand the legal stuff. Ahh Fall. As you can see my yard is ablaze in glorious colors. On the downside it is also freezing and I don't handle the cold well.

Mercury is starting to go into retrograde. If you are a Virgo like me you probably already feel the effects. Same if you have a lot of Virgo or Gemini in your natal chart. (Mercury rules both Virgo and Gemini)

For those of us who are Virgo it really effects your brain too! All I can say is on a good day I am the airy fairy queen. Now I am so far off the planet it is not funny. I so need to be grounded but of course that wont happen until Nov. 17!!!

My ipod now works :) What was wrong - the hold button was switched on.

It was the last thing I tried. I hooked it up to the computer. No go. I reset it to the factory settings and the reload my gadzillion files. No go. I got the book ipod for dummies out (of course I should have done this first) and it said the first thing that should be checked is the hold button. Voila!

All is right with the world again!

Not so long ago I used to hang out with The Les Paul Trio.

Lou Pallo (the rhythm guitarist)played every Wednesday night at a local restaurant/bar. Usually turning into a jam session it was a blast and a half. One never knew who was going to show up -- it could be guys from a local band, or Jon Paris (my personal favorite), Tony Bennett or Steve Miller or . . . Like I said you never knew.

Today I just found out Lou still plays there!! Guess where I will be tomorrow night! (and most Wednesday nights here on in :D ) I am so excited. Lou is such a great guy and I miss his music!! I didn't realize how much I missed those jam sessions until I heard they were still going on!

As an aside I found out Les still plays every Monday night in NYC. He is 91!! Wow! I really should go see The Trio ASAP. No one plays a Les Paul like Les Paul.

My personal favorite Les Paul song is Over The Rainbow. I have never heard anything more beautiful. I love to hear it one more time YK?

Celebrating Life!!!

On Wednesday, The Resident Princess turns 4!! Tomorrow she gets to celebrate her birthday at school. This is her first school birthday celebration and she is beyond excited!!! I am baking her cookies to bring in as per her request.

Everyday she is nothing but pure joy. As you can see she embraces life with her arms wide open. She fears nothing. I will save all the over the top mushy gushy stuff for my live journal blog, but I will end by saying I have no idea what I ever did right for the universe to lend me such a blessing.

It is October 15 -- Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

In the past each of the 50 governors had to be chased down to sign a resolution declaring the day as such. That was nothing short of interesting to see who would and who would not sign and their reasoning.

This year Washington made it permanent.

The resolution was signed a couple of weeks ago -- I needed it to settle before I could write about it. It is a good thing I think. We truly are a nation of silently grieving mothers for few ever speak of how their child was born still or died during its first year of life. Having this day lets mothers know they are not alone on this most unnatural journey.

It is political season (aka "silly season") and as the election gets closer things get crazy crazy with those running for office.

I do my very best to fly under everyone's radar. I pretty much can not stomach the nonsense of silly season or politics in general TBH. I am not THAT kind of reporter.

Sadly the two towns I cover are extra crazy this year and I am getting dragged into the arena. Recently my editor contacted me for my opinion of who she should endorse.

Here is our convo:

Editor: What to you think of AB?
Me: YK he gives off really really bad vibes.
Editor: I totally agree. What do you think of CD?
Me: He is a true politician but his vibes are better don't you think?
Editor: Yeah I do, we'll go with him. Now what about your other town?

If they only knew it was all about vibes, auras and the like!!!

As if I could get any more blissed out on this wonderful day - the whole week really -- I just found out Science of Sleep has been released in NJ! You know what I am doing this weekend!

Hello Who, Good-bye Wiggles

Sorry Greg, Murray, Anthony and Jeff but Katie is through with you. She has lost her heart to The Who.

Yesterday Katie and I went to the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, Md. Any hesitations I had of her not being okay about it were quickly lost. She danced and danced and danced. Then came The Who.

From the first note she was enthralled. She was given a pair of Zak Starkey's drum sticks and it was all over. She is now ready to follow them around the globe. Good thing all I need to work is an internet connection and a phone!!!

When she was not "drumming," Katie spent the better part of the day dancing around to The Who or watching their videos at thewhotour.com. All of course with the sticks in hand. She simply can not get enough!

The Who at PNC

Creative heads I come up with lately huh? Sheesh

I am beyond busy writing and reporting the news as well as editing other stuff but I wanted to say Laura BZ and I are going to see The Who at PNC on Thursday, Sept. 21.
